Roger
François was born in Petite-Riviere
de l'Artibonite,
Haiti
, in October, 1928. Before becoming a painter, François was a sculptor and student of Odilon
Duperier. François is a houngan, and needless
to say is deeply involved in Vodou in his daily
life and in his art. As such, his paintings are
characterized by subtle occult and mystical
symbolism, as well as more obvious voodoo
scenes.
Internationally renowned, François' works have
been exhibited in Belgium ,
Germany , the U.S. , and France .
His paintings have been on permanent exhibition
in the Brussels Museum since 1963. Within the
last many years, he has been seized upon by
collecters, who see his versatility, use of
color, and elegance of style as promises of
greatness.

The tourism industry in
Haiti
this day is at an all time low. Visitors have been drawn
instead to the
Dominican Republic
. Consequently, Haitian artists are trying to
survive. Their works are covered with dust and piled up in
a darken corner of the house. Unable to sell them and to
renew their supplies, an important part of the Haitian
culture is slowly dieing. Sponsor A Haitian Artist is
taking the initiative to bring a temporary and much needed
solution to this problem.
Saintilus Ismael was a well-known Haitian Artist.
Born in Petite Rivière, his legacy lives on. A lot of
young, well inspired artists have inherited his sensible
touch. Hundreds of such gifted students adopt his style
and got their (first) debut at his regular workshop
sessions. Sponsor A Haitian Artist is proud to present the
works of one of them; Charles Guether, a 27 year old
talented artist.
Please, help us keep alive this important
segment of our culture by placing an order. Painting
accessories like brushes, palettes, tubes and so on are in
dyer needs. The money will allow us to provide them with
those materials and a little encouragement for their
marvelous works.
We need your support.
